Between 18 and 25 July 2015 GoCreate Taunton CIC worked alongside Taunton Festival of the Arts, to create a week of activities which celebrated all genres of the arts. These included events, gigs, exhibitions, music, demonstrations, workshops, schools arts competition, schools poetry competition, talks, performances awareness raisers and much more. To achieve this remarkable week, GoCreate worked closely with other organisations working in the arts in Taunton and with local businesses who acted as host to our artists over the week.
The attached photographs provide a taste of the rich cornucopia of free events that were enjoyed by Taunton during that week. We are now looking forward to building on the success of this event in future years.
Kit Chapman, Chair of Arts Taunton presided over the opening ceremony at Castle Green.
100 hand painted banners adorned the streets:
35 businesses ‘adopted an artist’ for the week
There were six curated art exhibitions including one by Somerset Contemporary Artists Network at The Winchester Arms
and a schools’ open exhibition at The Brewhouse Theatre
GoCreate’s Knit and Knatter groups did Taunton proud with yarnbombing everywhere delighting the public:
The winner of the yarnbombing cup was this wonderful floral arch at Ruishton Church.
Families enjoyed free creative workshop and live music on Castle Green and Somerset Square
There were demonstrations in Castle Hotel Gardens and The Orchard Shopping Centre
And sculpure by local schoolchildren for everyone to enjoy
And finally there was a free concert on Castle Green on Saturday 25 July followed by a light projection installation at The Brewhouse Theatre to end a week to remember.
