Newsletter for Winter 2016/2017

What we’ve been up to…

We have secured both Taunton and Exeter train stations to exhibit Jo Mortimer ‘s Art posters of Taunton’s finest spaces, created for Taunton Live 2016…

and we are really excited to announce that Go Create member Philippa Reid, award winning Quiller, will be bringing to Taunton Live 2017 the Quilling Guild’s amazing display of 6,241 quilled flowers which has recently achieved a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title.
During October and November, GoCreate artists exhibited their work from the Paintathon in the Tacchi-Morris Arts’ Centre foyer and also filled the library exhibition space with a wonderfully varied selection of their work. We currently have the Taunton Live 2016 Schools’ Poetry Competition Winner poems on display at YMCA in Taunton, which is well worth a visit.

GoCreate members Jackie Crawford and Jenny Keogh now have artwork on display in the newly refurbished Lamb and Flag in Blagdon.
‘Taunton Lives’ by Adam Gross, Artist in Residence during Taunton Live 2016 and Paintathon winner, is currently on display upstairs in Pizza Express and is due to be auctioned off to raise funds for 2017.

We had a wonderful ‘Foodie’ weekend at the first Brewfood Festival, running food inspired creative workshops involving printing with food, painting with vegetable paints and creating a large-scale food installation.
GoCreate / SAV stars from our ‘Constellation’ project were transformed into festive bunting for Taunton’s Christmas trees this year on Castle Green and in front of the Market House. GoCreate also decorated a tree to represent India in the Global forest at the Brewhouse, helping to promote their production of “Around the World in 80 Days”…

Several GoCreate members helped Andy, Mark and Richard to create a magical Christmas experience at CICcic which was hugely popular and hotly tipped as possibly the best Christmas event in Taunton.

…and by no means least…

We are currently actively preparing for our third Arts Festival in Taunton, Taunton Live 2017- please see our website tauntonlive.co.uk for more details.

Taunton Live 2017 will celebrate ‘The Diversity of Culture in Somerset’. This year’s festival will be mingling and theming events to celebrate the rich diversity of different cultures living in multi-cultural Somerset. Taunton Live 2017 will run between 24th and 30th July and focus again on Castle Green.

We will be celebrating all the genres of the Arts in all their wonderful forms, from traditional Indian weaving seen alongside Somerset withy basket work; line-dancers will come face to face with Palestinian stick dancers; clog dancers will mingle with belly dancers.

Sculpture, Poetry, Music, Dancing, Theatre, artists sketching and painting outdoors and much, much more.

In addition, we will have tasters of food and drink from around the world, drawing on local Somerset companies and our own Taunton Farmers’ Market.

We are planning to work with over 20 local schools and Colleges prior to the festival itself, for our School 2017 Art and Poetry workshops and competitions and with over 30 local retailers who will ‘Adopt an Artist’ during the festival and see their shop window is transformed.

We will be working alongside local charities and engage with community groups working with both mental and physical health issues, creating Street Art, music, and providing free painting and Sculpture workshops for all ages and abilities.

Taunton’s Got Talent 2017 will offer both young and old the chance to shine and we are planning another dedicated Music Day on Saturday 29th July, which will showcase more local musical and performance talent…

We invite you to be involved in this wonderful ‘Multicultural, Community Art Event’ in Taunton…

Please get in contact with Jenny or Liz for more details or visit our Facebook or Twitter pages.

We are looking for…

Creatives and cultural food vendors who would like a pitch on Castle Green on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th July during Taunton Live week.
Thanks to GoCreate Director Fran Pitt, Taunton Live Yarnbombing has been a huge success over the last two years but she would like a change of ‘scenery’. We are therefore looking for a
Taunton Live Yarnbombing Coordinator to oversee the knitting groups for the festival trail. No knitting experience required but makes the role more fun!
Volunteers who want to get involved in Taunton’s biggest Arts Festival and gain new and exciting experiences.

How you can get involved

As a volunteer led group, we rely heavily on our wonderful committee and members fundraising throughout the year and running events to raise money for Taunton Live.
Please do join GoCreate, become a Corporate member or host an Event.
We have applied for Arts Council funding and other local funding pots but unfortunately these are never guaranteed. If anyone has links with businesses who may wish to sponsor the Festival any help would be very much appreciated.
